OUR HISTORY

It all began back in the 1960s. The builders of the connecting railway regularly held barbecues there in front of their workshop. The only thing the mechanics had to offer was roast chicken – ‘Gueggel’ the origin of today's name.

In 1990, the plans became more concrete: the board of directors of the mountain railways planned a mountain hut near the former Clavadeler ski lift. Philippe Charles opened Chalet Güggel in 1991. At the beginning, the small mountain restaurant had only 35 seats inside and 100 outside.

In the decades that followed, Philippe Charles ran the Güggel with great success, turning it into an institution over the course of 25 years. The restaurant grew steadily over time, expanding from its original 135 seats to a business with over 500 seats. The infrastructure developed in parallel – the Clavadeler ski lift was replaced by a chairlift.

For the 2018/19 season, Philippe Charles transferred his shares to Udo Blankart, who had already been part of the Güggel family and helped shape the further development of the establishment.

The 2025/2026 season marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Chalet Güggel: Susanna Raith and Veronika Sailer are the new hosts. With a great deal of passion and dedication, they are leading the traditional mountain restaurant into the future while preserving the charm, quality, and warmth that Güggel has always stood for.
